A VERY SUCCESSFUL MISSION FAIR -HERE'S HOW WE DID IT.

LUCKY DIP

On Wednesday the 23rd of September was the Mission fair. Our job was the Boys’ and Girls ‘Lucky Dip and we sold  it outside Room 3. We raised about 200 dollars on the boys and girls Lucky Dips. Our main customers were Hugo and Oscar because they brought about 14 each.

I was surprised that all of the Boys Lucky Dip  all sold out about in 35 minutes. The girls Lucky Dip  nearly all sold out. We loved our stall because we got to just sit there and collect money and do lots of maths. The Mission Fair was amazing and very successful.

Toys and Books Stall

Before the Mission Fair started we organized our stall. Our stall had  toys and books. We worked in Room 2. First we put prices on the items. The highest price was $6 the rest of the items were $2, $1, $1.50 or 50¢. The lowest price was 20¢. When we were setting up the toys and books on the tables to be sold 3 Year 3s helped us put everything on the tables. When our stall was open Ashlyn and I got our float and started selling a lot of toys. At the end of the day we sold most of our items. I think we raised about $80 selling our things. I really enjoyed selling our stuff to raise some money for the needy.

Mystery Prizes

Salu and I sold the mystery prizes with Mrs Ackers who  said that we had to organise
all the prizes into a bag. There were 122 prizes to be sold and they were $2 each. Half way though wet to  half price. Mrs Ackers said that she had never failed to sell all of them and we didn’t have any left over .It was fun seeing the prizes as they were opened. Most people were happy accept for James who got a girly thing.

 Cake Stall

For the last few weeks we have planning for The Mission Fair. The group-Ben, WhunnDaa, Levi were in charge of the cake stall. We started off with our poster. WhunnDaa added his amazing chocolate wrappers. We had to set up the tables.

Next we laid the paper on the tables for the cakes to go on. Then some of the Rm 6s came to buy some stuff before the  fair started.

As soon as the 12:00 bell rang for the fair to start customers were pouring into the cake stall! The first shopkeepers for the cake stall were WhunnDaa and Levi. A lot of people kept on giving us $20 notes and we just about ran out of change.

Finally we ran out of customers and so we went around selling them for HALF PRICE!!!.

My group thinks that we made the most money out of all of the stalls. We enjoyed selling cakes and it was definitely a new experience for all of us to be shopkeepers.

 SHOES AND JEWELLERY

At 12 o ‘clock all the stalls opened .We were selling the shoes and the jewellery. We waited  for the parents to buy some jewellery. Then while we were at the shoes stall people were looking at the shoes but didn’t end up buying them.

Later some ladies  started to buy some jewellery. Parishioners  brought some jewellery like necklets and bracelets.

At the jewellery stall heaps of people bought things especially the Room1 and 2 students.

As soon as we sold half of the jewellery we were relieved that some of the jewellery was gone and still made a lot of money. We gave the shoes away for free.

We really enjoyed the experience.

Working at the Arts and Crafts stall

Before the MISSION FAIR 2015 we collected arts, crafts, toys, knitted clothing and valuables. We set up between 9am and 10am. Mrs Reddy then brought some hand stitched Barbie clothes. The day and night before the Mission Fair Talia and I were busy making origami houses, cranes and dresses.

During the first 15 minutes we sold 10$ worth of clothing, art work from the students and origami. Then throughout the day we raised about ninety dollars and sold most things.

We really enjoyed our time on the stall raising for people in need. We are proud of raising and more dollars all together as a school.

Drinks and sausages
Before the Mission Fair started we all had to make a poster to attract customers to buy our product .
Brayden and Benjamin started up the grill and got the tongs while I went to get the drinks. Then when it was time the people started lining up from everywhere.
We sold a lot of sausages and drinks and thanks to Mr Wichman and Mr McInnes for helping us out.

OUR WINNING SPEECHES THIS YEAR.

YEAR 5 WINNNER

                      Buddhism
Buddhism is a religion that around 300 million people all around the word take part in.
Siddhartha Gotama who later changed his name to Mahama Gotama  was born into a rich family in Lambai ,Nepal .
A long time before Christ was born at the age of 29 Mahama Gotama saw all of the poverty that were around him.Since he was rich he felt sorry for the poor and he started starving himself.
He started the Buddhist religion and people started calling him Buddha. Buddha did not call himself a god but he called himself a teacher.
Buddha spent the rest of his life teaching about the Buddhist religion until his death at the age of 80.
Now for some facts about Buddhism.
Some Buddhists don't eat meat or fish.
Buddhists don't believe in harming any living being.
They meditate every day.
Buddhists  don't believe in using weapons.
Buddhists believe in karma. Karma is the law that explains that every cause has an effect and that our actions have consequences.
This simple law explains a number of things, like the inequality around the world and why some are people  born disabled and why some only live a short life .
It is because of the karma in their past and present life.
Buddha taught the same values of love ,peace non-violence like other  religions of the world such as Christianity.
I hope you learnt something new .            Written by Ema
YEAR 6 WINNER!
Obesity

I believe that everyone can be fit and healthy.
Today I am going to tell you all the reasons why obesity should be stopped or prevented.
If you don’t know what obese means it means you are overweight.
Did you know about 60% of Pacific Island children are obese?
Did you know about 40% of Maori children are obese?
I think that obesity should stop because people, especially children are getting bigger and bigger.
Did you know the more food you eat the more weight you gain? One reason some people are overweight is because they eat oversized portions of food.
Did you know the size of meat or fish you should eat has to fit in   palm of your hand?
We can eat any amount of vegetables.
Some people get made fun of for being obese so that’s another reason why it should stop.
Obesity can happen when you get older because you apparently lose muscle and you are not very active in activities.
Now I am going to tell you all the things you need to do to stop Obesity-
Exercise, eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. If you stopped watching television for a whole month you would be very slim.
You can also go on a diet. Some foods  said to be healthy are not because they have a lot of  salt, sugar and fat.The best drinks you should have are milk or water.

Obesity has to stop because it is killing a lot of people.

WHY READING IS IMPORTANT.

I think that reading is very important and also good for education.

Reading is very important because everyone might learn something new and learn to spell, read or write. When you are reading you get taken on very magical adventures.

Next, everyone loves different books like novels, fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels and biographies.Reading is also very important to lots of people as it entertains and provides new information.

You need to be able to read so you can vote, work, get a driver’s licence, go to university and lots more.

Finally books are a source of entertainment and great for when you are board.

A world without reading is a world I don’t want to live in.
I think that reading is very important to the world and me.
BY ASHLYN

You sure have convinced me,Ashlyn.

OUR LAST WRITING FOR THE TERM WAS RELATED TO BOOK WEEK.

READING IS VERY IMPORTANT IN OUR LIVES.

Reading is important because it can be fun and I have some reasons why I think reading is important.

Reading helps us get information on things that we want to know more about in school or at home.

Reading also helps with our education like science, math, and writing. We have to be able read to do well in these subjects.

When we grow up and get our drivers licence we have to read the test to be able to pass it.

Reading also helps when we go to university or CPIT.To study at university we have to be able to read to understand.

In shops to know what we are getting  and how much it is we have to read.At a movie that is in a different language we can read subtitles.

The last reason is reading makes us paint a picture in our minds and use our imagination.

These are the reasons why I really think reading is important in our lives.
By James

I certainly agree with you James.A very interesting argument,James.

At the end, we got a
bag of goodies from the Canterbury Kings which had  a Frisbee,a wrist band, thunder stick and some vouchers.  When we finished we walked back to school. It was a great afternoon

OUR BRAIN-THE BOSS OF OUR BODY

Today two physiotherapists came to our classroom .Brian and Laura taught us about the brain and how messages get sent to body. They showed us a power point of the human brain and the different ways in which they work.
Next we all went outside to play the Neuron Game where you relay a  message to your friends behind you. After that we all came back inside and talked more about the brain and asked some questions before the physiotherapists left. We learned a lot and as Talia told the visitors in her thank you speech ,we are going to look after our brain and use it well to learn new things.

CHRISTCHURCH MUSIC FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE NIGHT -WEDNESDAY 28 OCTOBER

Dear Parents

Our school choir’s Horncastle Arena rehearsal is from  9.45am – 12.15pm on the morning of our  Performance Night. This event is organized by the school and I shall be taking them.
On the night, your child is to be at Horncastle Arena by 6.30pm - better to be a little early than late.
Food: NO CHILD is allowed to leave the area to visit the Main Foyer. The children will need to be toileted BEFORE they enter the Arena.
Clothing: Jackets and sweatshirts should be left with parents as the children become overheated when performing under lights. It is preferable that watches and shiny jewellery are not worn as this sparkles in the lights and causes distraction to the audience.
Sweets: No child is to bring sweets, food or drinks unless needed because of medical reasons.
Interval: The children DO NOT come out at the half-time interval and the parents ARE NOT ALLOWED into their performance area during interval. Ice creams and other treats which parents may want to bring should be saved until after the performance has finished. Choirs must remain in the seats at the half-time interval.
At the conclusion of the Performance: Please make your own arrangements with your child as to where they will meet at the conclusion of the performance or I shall take them to the Main by  the main doors to await collection. I shall remain at the CBS Arena until all your children are collected.
Meals: As the children will be in the CBS Arena from approximately 6.45pm to 9.15pm we suggest they have a sensible meal before the show (preferably not fast food) and a small amount to drink.
I shall need one  parent supervisor for our choir  at the CBS Arena so please let me know if you can help.
Tickets: Public sales are available through Ticketek and from the ticket office at the venue on the night. If you bought tickets through the  school from Shelley earlier this term, they are ready for collection if you have not got them.
Transport :If your child has transport difficulty, try to make some arrangements with parents of other students who are in the choir. Please let me know in advance if you have problems with getting your child to the arena for the night of the performance so I can organize something, and if you can help with transport.
The Area rehearsal was excellent and I was proud of the students' behaviour and singing.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Looking forward to the actual performance.

Kind regards
Grace

YOUNG VINNIES DO SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

Last  Saturday some of us  Young Vinnies went daffodil picking. Everyone meet at school at 9:30 in the morning to go to Lincoln  to pick some daffodils from great  big fields. We all picked daffodils for an hour and a half and filled up seventeen buckets .

Next  we drove back to school and had sausages and chips. After that we bunched the flowers in sixes, cut the ends of the flowers and put rubber bands around them to give some  to our parishioners of Stella Maris. We also delivered bunches of daffodils  to rest homes in Woolston. We all enjoyed picking daffodils and we hope to they brought smiles to those who got them.
Thanks to Faye Hall and Father Dan for the transport and the yummy food.

WRITING ARGUMENTS IN ROOM 5

We have been learning to write arguments in our class.
WHY THE ST ANNE’S SCHOOL MISSION FAIR IS IMPORTANT!

I think that the Mission Fair is important while others may think it is a fun fair.
The main reason of the Mission Fair is to raise money for Caritas which  means sharing.Caritas helps the needy and the poor by supplying food, shelter and fresh water.

Shelter helps people to stay dry and warm. Food means people will not starve. Water keeps people hydrated and keeps your blood pumping.
The money really helps poor people  in countries like Africa and Nepal is another reason why I think the Mission Fair is important. It also helps after a big disaster. For example this year,in Nepal, there was a very big earth quake and Caritas raised money to help supply food.At St Anne’s we prayed for the victims and donated money .

Fairs are important because the children want to have fun, and come together in a group. They also love to celebrate the coming of the end of the term through a fair - good to have some fun.

These are my reasons why I think we should have a Mission fair. Every little cent counts so  on the 23rd of September, in three weeks’ time ,help us raise lots of money to help Caritas help the poor.
