Samoan Concert-Celebrating Samoa!

As soon as the bell rang we walked to the Mission Centre for the Samoan concert. We were up first and my heart was pumping so hard I thought it was going to explode.

The girls started with a sasa and it was a so nice it was a good way to start. The boys and I organised a haka and a dance. The other classes did a dance or a song .At the end  Elisah and Lola did a beautiful Samoan dance -  I nearly cried my eyes out- it was so cute.
After that there was a shared lunch ,Samoan art and listening to Samoan songs to finish a lovely Samoan Language week.

To fa so fua   -   Good day !!!!!!!!

A Family Song in Samoan

This song has a family theme and Room 5 has done a great job of singing it in Samoan. It is all about loving family members including grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters.
Have a go at learning to sing in another language. Here are the lyrics:

I come  from  a family of five and there is  a baby on  the way. My  mother is Tiffany  and  my father is Lafaele. My mother was born in Dunedin, NZ and my father was born in Apia, the capital of Samoa.
My sister Atalaita loves to eat Samoan food like palusami. Aidan, my brother is learning to speak Samoan. The rest of us are proud to speak our language and at home everyone communicates in Samoan.
My last visit to Samoa was when I was seven years old and my best memory was uniting with my large family and swimming in the warm water holes.
When I grow up I would love to become a doctor to help people. The second choice would be to become a sport’s star.
My favourite sport is Netball and my favourite sports person is Silver Fern ,Maria Tutaia .I too would love to be a silver fern one day. I’m now in a Netball club called Otautahi. In my first game representing  Otautahi a fortnight ago played Goal Shoot  but my favourite position to play is Goal Attack.
My best subject at school is Reading. I love to share my ideas with other students. I enjoy learning and I always try to do my best.

REMEMBRANCE ASSEMBLY Friday 8 May

Last  Friday , some  parents sat patiently as Room5 were having a quick  final practise of their assembly.
Macarius was our leader and he gave everyone a warm welcome. Our first song was the National Anthem and the whole school joined in.
We started of with the candle ceremony, each candle represented the past, present or future. After the candle ceremony was the taking up of the ANZAC symbols.

Next we then sang Eternal Rest which was followed by prayers.

Some students beautifully said the Prayers of the faithful.

For our grandparents, great grandparents and relatives who help us to remember our history and appreciate people of courage and unselfishness.

For the families of all men and women who died in past wars and who continue to feel the loss of their loved ones.

For the safety of the men and women who serve in the army, the navy and the air force today, we place them in God’s faithful care.

For those who are living in war torn lands today, and those who have had to run away from their countries and are having to live as refugees in foreign lands. May they find peace and gentle love in their lives once again.

For people in power, that they will always work and negotiate to bring peace to their countries and avoid war at all costs.

For ourselves, that we may be peacemakers and peacekeepers in our homes and in our school.
The cross ceremony showing  we respect all those who died for us, was emotional - The Last Past was played while some students put up the white crosses...

The last song was Lest we Forget. The assembly ended well and we gave all the classes the song lyrics of  Lest we Forget.

TREE PLANTING IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE MISSION SISTERS ..

Last  Wednesday the Mission sisters came to our school to plant a mandarine tree.

Father Dan blessed the tree and the garden club dug up into the soil and watered it. The sisters talked about how long they had been at our  school and they talked about how to grow the tree and to look after it.
We shall water the tree and the  sunlight and soil will  help it grow. The sisters also said that when it grows big we could eat the mandarins.
We hope that the tree will grow really big.

Thanks to all my students for a wonderful birthday party last Tuesday-the cards, presents, food and entertainment was much appreciated.I was very impressed with the collaboration and organisation involved -admirable skills but above all the care and thoughtfulness was amazing- I was very touched and what a pleasant surprise it was!
May God bless you all - thanks to the parents as well. What great boys and girls you have.
 Grace.
