SKOOL SKATING

On Thursday 29th of September Room 5 walked to Bamford School to participate in the Skate Skool. Once we got there we met our old friend Boss Luke. We all sat down and listened to what he had to say. We started off with some warm-ups; octopus sprints and leap frog. After the warm-ups we lined up and collected our safety gear. We sat down and put on our roller blades or got our skate boards.
Next we started skating, we only had half an hour and most of us fell over. While we were skating Mrs Reddy and Miss O’Neill were taking videos and photos of us. Some of us went over the ramps. The boys on the skateboards were showing off their mad skills and tricks. The girls were helping each other to skate which was really caring. Mrs Reddy did not like the thought of us falling over. With 5 minutes left we skated like professionals. We ended our fun morning by packing up and Thomas got a prize for being the first one to take off his gear. We all thanked Boss Luke and walked back to school.
It was a fun morning.

WINNING Y6 SPEECH ROOM 5

Ocean Pollution

Have you ever thought of Ocean pollution
and how it effects our seas? I chose this topic after my family and I went to San Diego sea world in June this year. There was a show about the shamu killer whale and at the end of it I learned something very important about sea pollution.
Did you know that the biggest threat to ocean mammals is pollution?
It really made me think of how people can help to fix this problem.
So let me ask you another question.

Did you know that thirty seven million gallons of oil are accidently spilt into oceans every year by huge tankers?
In total, sixty million gallons of oil end up in the ocean every year.
Many sea animals are badly affected .Think of ocean birds.
When oil sticks to birds feathers they split .Most birds try to  lick off the oil but end up damaging their internal organs because they swallow oil while doing so.
The next Marine animal I want inform you about is the fur seal.
They cannot escape predators when oil sticks to their flippers.
They can also starve because their food gets contaminated.
Fish are also affected by oil because it clogs their gills and stops them from breathing.

Did you know that cars also pollute the ocean?
What happen is poisonous   car fumes come out of the exhaust pipes,
evaporate into the atmosphere and become acid rain.
This poisonous acid rain eventually ends up in the ocean it killing  many fish and plants over a period of time .When toxic waste harms an organism it can be passed on through  the food chain. One toxic organism gets eaten by another larger animal and can end up being our sea food.
For example smaller fish eats  the poisoned  plants which is eaten by a bigger fish ,which is eaten by  us -  humans.

In conclusion we are all responsible for keeping our oceans clean and I am glad that I went to Sandiego SeaWorld because, not only did I have so much fun but I learned what we do on land can effect sea life.

ALTAR SERVERS - CARRYING ON THE MISSION OF CHURCH.

Posted by Picasa
On 21 of September Cindy and I  went to Room 2 to have an interview on altar serving .We  were asked some questions about Alter servers which we were able to answer. Room 2 enjoyed the funny stories we experienced when we altar serve. They laughed when they heard about the priest’s cell phone ringing in the middle of the Mass.
A few days later Room 2 came over to our class with the beautiful thank you cards as shown in the picture above.
We love the cards and are happy that they learned something about altar serving, something they can look forward to.

Mission Fairs are Important

Mission Fairs are Important
Mission Fairs are very important because it raises money for the poor people in South Africa and everyone else in the world who are poor!
Firstly, if Caritas (Which is a group that raises money for the poor) runs out of money, then some people could die because they have no money for food, water, clothes and more stuff like this!
Secondly, if we learn to give to others instead of ourselves, then we’ll grow up with that habit and we’ll keep on giving!
Thirdly, if you’ve got something still in good nick that you don’t want, you could donate it to the mission fair and it will go to a good home, plus you’ll feel good about it because some money will have been paid for that item and that money will go to the needy
Finally, students have lots and lots of fun because most of the time we have games as well. Also everyone at this school likes to relax and have a good time, even the teachers!
So come on down on the last day of term, spend some money, play some games, wear mufti and help the poor!!!

Eating   Healthy   Is   Important
I am writing  about the importance of children and adults  eating healthy. So many children are not eating healthy.
Here are some reasons why we should eat healthy.
My first reason is that a lot of children from five-fifteen, have diabetes and many die at thirty. Diabetics should eat lots of fruit and veges.
My second reason is we don’t want our future to be overweight and die before 30.Eating lean meat will help.
My final reason is that we want them to be able to do sports and other physical games for a long time. Food we eat should be used by our bodies,
Now  you know why I want people to eat healthy.

Sr Jill McGloughlin Visits Room 5 Friday 2 September

Many thanks to Sister Jill for teaching Room 5 all about the life of the Religious, and especially that of a nun.The students remained totally focused  and learned everything about  recognising  people who are called to be part of the mission of the Church in different ways, recognise the importance of prayer and community life for religious sisters and brothers, identify the vows that religious sisters and brothers take  and identify how religious brothers and sisters can use their gifts for the mission of the Church.

The students also  had some interview questions for her.

Please remember to pray for vocation especially in the religious life as we need more priests, nuns and brothers to continue the work of the Church.
