Mrs Reddy’s Classroom Newsletter

WELCOME BACK –TERM 4!

I sincerely hope you had a  restful break and enjoyed the Rugby World Cup as much as I did.
I would like to thank you sincerely for your tremendous support and contribution which made our Mission Fair a great success two weeks ago.
I look forward to working with you in the last term of the year which looks rather exciting and very busy.
At the start we shall be completing work and evaluations from term 3 followed by testing in all the core subjects.
The students are consistently setting goals including behavioural ones, achieving them and then setting new ones.
This is an important ongoing activity which started at the beginning of this year. It helps learning progress and needs close monitoring.
The students should be doing something similar to help homework and the learning at home.
. Term 4- CHANGE
The big concept that weaves through all our learning is CHANGE.
We are also looking forward to a one day  Outdoor Education Experience  – details will follow once we have decided .
Another event that we need to look at will be related to our role as the Young Vinnies of St Anne’s. I shall discuss this with the students, keeping in mind the Communion of Saints Strand. which we shall be studying.
Finally Room 5 is responsible for organising the end of year Mass.

LONGTERM PLAN

RE- The last major strand for the term will be Communion of Saints Strand.
All Saints, Holy Souls and Advent will be taught from the Liturgical Year module.
Maori is well integrated in RE.
Standard letters will be sent out to you as soon as we begin the studies informing you of the content of studies in your child’s RE exercise book. Your child will come home with home activities regularly to be completed requiring your input. This exercise allows you to support the learning that happens in class .It is important that you sign each activity on completion and write a comment at the end of the study in each strand. Note that the Family Whanau book is an invaluable resource for parents to have at  home as it gives you all the necessary information about the RE programme from Year 1 to Year 8 and  may be borrowed from the school office.

Road Patrol Training Thursday 3 November

ROAD PATROL
This morning a few Year 6 students in Room5 had their first road patrol training with Constable Sam and Constable Cole.
First we watched an amazing movie teaching us how to keep safe while helping kid cross the road.
Next we went out to the field to practise the things we watched on the video. We put out signs, checked and then crossed pedestrians safely.
Finally we did the real thing out on the road. During this time a lady ran the stop sign and Constable Sam gave her a $150 ticket .Thomas was really scared .
The course finished, everyone passed and we all got badges. We can’t wait to do road patrol next year

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MERESIA AND FATIMA

Posted by PicasaFatima and Meresia are now 11 years old.

Celebrating All Saints Day November 1,2011

Posted by Picasa
This morning the whole school celebrated All Saints day . Once the bell had rang, everyone  assembled in  the brand new Mission Centre.
After the welcome by Katelyn  we sang  a hymn called “Celebrate  God”.
Hamiora did a reading and Tatiana said a prayer for our class. Miss French read the Gospel and  Mr C said a homily. Mr C said we  all have to try hard to be saints. At the end of the celebration we sang “Ka  Waiata” .
Overall  we think it was a great celebration . From today Room 5 will try their best to live like a saints .
