ROOM 5 NEWSLETTER TERM ONE 2013

Talofa lava,Kiora ,Welcome!
We have made a great start  to 2013 so far.
There is much to  look forward to this term which is rather exciting! It is always my goal to provide all students with an educationally challenging, yet fun, experience in my classroom.

The students are  being  guided and supported in keeping the routines in R5  to engage in learning at this level. I hope that the children will work on becoming self-propelled learners  and develop this responsibility with a positive attitude.I shall endeavour to do the best I can to ensure their progress in all areas.
The  assertive discipline policy in my class is designed to help  those children who l need help in acquiring appropriate behaviours which hider learning.

Term 1 - ENERGY

The big concept that weaves through all our learning is ENERGY which means that most if not all of  our studies  will be around this theme.
During the  first few weeks  the students have completed  tests and  are now grouped at appropriate levels in Reading, Writing and Moths .

In RE the area for school – wide assessment is Prayer Forms.

LONGTERM PLAN

RE -  We have studied different  prayer forms including meditation and the students have been rostered to lead prayers throughout the day.For the Liturgical year
Ash Wednesday,Lent ,Holy Week and Easter  lessons will be taught - with practical implications.

The major strand for the term is  JESUS. The students will be involved in a very active way to live and expand their faith. Your child’s RE  book will  inform you of the content of studies. This book will be sent home on a regular basis with home activities to be completed with you. This exercise allows you to support the learning that happens in class .It is important that you sign each activity on completion and write a comment at the end of the study in each strand.

The Family Whanau book is an invaluable resource for parents to have at  home as it gives you all the necessary information about the RE programme from Year 1 to Year 8.
