SWIM WEEK Monday 19 March – Thursday 23 March

SWIMMING IS IMPORTANT
Swimming is important. If you do not know how to swim you can drown.
There are many styles of swimming, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and many more. Freestyle is a very handy technique and is the first style you get taught.
Everyone should be learning swimming and if not they should sign up for lessons at Pioneer Stadium where we learnt a lot including water safety.

Day One
Today after Prayers we went swimming at Pioneer Stadium Pool.
When we got there, we got  changed in the new rooms and waited for the tutors to arrive. Then they told us about rules and what to do if there was is an earthquake or a fire. In  a fire we grab our clothes and go out the two fire exits. In an earthquake we stay in the pool because it is safer then they said should we get changed now we said yes then we changed into our togs.

Not long afterwards  it was time to get changed again and go back to school.
The swimming was so fun  and I am looking forward to the week at Pioneer Stadium.

Day Two-
We had a great time learning free style, back stroke and rolling logs. When we were doing free style we learnt how to do arm circles. For back stroke we did one - on - one with the tutor. For rolling logs we had to float on our back for four seconds then roll on our tummy and stay there for four seconds. Last but not least ,we did handstands, Freya won.
My next goal is to swim longer and breathe properly.

My swimming group was learning how to breathe today. We did  freestyle and how to float on our back in back stroke. I found it hard in freestyle because I didn’t really know how to roll on my side and breathe. My favourite was back stoke because it is easier to breathe and your eyes don’t have to go under water .I think that I will get better at freestyle by practising more when I grow a bit older. My goal for today is to practise breathing during freestyle.

DAY 3
Today at swimming group 3 did some lane swimming, back stoke and freestyle. Then we went to the big lane pool to dive off the edge. First we did plain diving then we did the pencil. After that we were allowed to do any style of diving and swimming we wanted. When we got to the end of the pool we hopped out, found our bags, dressed ourselves and wenttothebus to catch our ride back.
My next step is to get better at lane swimming in speed and breathing.

We did some streamline swimming. We all learnt how to swim and breathe at the same time. At the end of our session we played candlesticks under water. My next goal is practise breathing next time I go swimming.

DAY 4  -  Survival Swimming!!!

In the morning Carina, Indi and I made a card for our swimming teacher to thank him. When we got to the pool we all got changed. Later on we all found out that he wasn’t teaching us and that another teacher called Leanne was going to teach us, we all were so disappointed. So we asked Leanne to give it to Chris, our teacher.
When we got into the pool we all tried a new stroke called survival back-stroke. It looked like a cross between breast-stroke and back-stroke.
Then we tried putting life jackets on in the water, it was  really hard. We also learnt how to save people when they are drowning. You have to keep their head above the water and drag them to safety!!
At the end we all did a cannonball into the water.
I had a great last day swimming, I liked pretending to save Carina the best!!!
