We did actions
for the Samoan song. Va’ai played drums at the beginning of the assembly to
line up the Kapahaka children. In two
more weeks, we are going to the CBS arena to perform in front of everyone.

Then someone very special who teaches us PE skills ,Cathy
Baker came talked to us about her Olympic experience. She represented NZ as a
hockey player in 1984.They went to
Canada and practiced for three weeks. When they finished they flew all the way to America to compete
with 5 other nations including Australia.
Laverton.
Cathy told
us all about her time at the Olympics as one of the woman of the New Zealand
hockey team. She told us that they were very generous and let her have free
food and meals whenever she wanted whether it was three o’clock in the
afternoon or two o’clock in the morning. She told us how she traded badges with
the other teams and national team jerseys. She also told us about her
competitor’s passport and even showed us. It was one of the best experiences in
her life.

Ms French and Denise are amazed - they cannot believe they are actually holding the 1984 mascots and medals .
Cathy Baker's experience was inspiring for our whole school.
She told us to not give up our dreams and that there was probably a future gold medalist right in this room. I think everyone learned a lot from Cathy Baker. When
I am older I want to go to the Olympics for hockey as well.

I liked
Cathy Bakers advice. I think it was funny when she talked about the lollies. I
really liked her badges, they were cool! I also liked the cool mascots she
showed us, I like the New Zealand one the best!
It was a
great assembly marking our Olympics Day. It was lovely that some parents came.
R5 enjoyed
wearing their medals to the assembly- we are all champions.
