OUR OLYMPIC VALUES STUDY

2012 Olympic - Introduction
Our class started studying the Olympic Games 4 weeks ago. Mrs Reddy got us some interesting reading matierial. In our study we visited all kinds of websites and activities. The  pictures of the mascots Wenlock and Mandevil were interesting.

We discussed the Values of the Olympics because we needed to know the importance of  The Olympics –

excellence : means you need to take part in things-

friendship: means you need to understand each other –

respect : which means you need to play fairly and not cheat. These are important Olympic values.

Our focus was on the values. We did a brainstorm on friend ship, respect and excellence-What they  look like, feel like and sound like.
Now we use the Olympic values all the time like at sports, class time, school trips and at play time. I think you should follow the Olympic values because they help you become like Jesus.

The Olympic Values will help us with everyday life experiences. They will help us because without friends we would be alone, without respect we wouldn’t deserve much and without excellence there would be no point in education.
Excellence gives us respect and respect gives us friendship. The Olympic values are like our life values. I think that the Olympics chose the right values.                                                     By Freya

Our lovely display in Room 5 shows country flags, shiny medals, colourful artworks, shiny medals, Olympic rings, athlete photos and  what the Olympic values are .
I think it looks great and shows what the Olympics are all about. We also did learn a lot about the Olympics. We learned that there are three values friendship, excellence and respect. Room five will  now use them all the time.                                                               Tatiana

We think our Olympic study taught us a lot. We did  some art by making medals and Olympic values posters. We learnt about the Olympic and Para Olympic values. This study was important because we learnt new things that are important in our lives like not to take drugs to solve our problems.

Our  Olympic Medals
The medals we made were gold, silver and bronze like real medals. Everyone in the class put their own design and motto on their ones. The colour of our medals was silver. The colours of the ribbons were purple with a gold stripe. We had fun making the medals. I hope we do it for the next Olympics.

Our Olympic Visual Art
Our art was about reinforcing the Olympic values.
We first got 4 pieces of white paper  then drew the Olympic rings with a cup  in a creative ways. Next we created interesting designs with words like FRIENDSHIP-EXCELLENCE and RESPECT using pastel crayons.
Can you find the words?                           Beth /Rosie

OLYMPIC FLAGS
Each person in Room5 chose a country taking part in the Olympics and coloured in that country’s flag.
On the flag we wrote interesting facts about that country like what continent it’s in, the main language, population, their Olympic events, capital city and an interesting fact about them.
The flags are now part of our Olympic visual displays which looks very attractive in our classroom.                                                   Jack S/Ethan

Our School Olympic Day
We were meant to have our Olympic Day but because of heavy rain it was  cancelled - our field was muddy and wet. We changed the date to 24th August. We are going to wait and hope that next week it won’t rain .
It did rain –what a shame!                                 Laverton/Sofia
