Another Letter From Your Teacher.

Dear Room 5

I am writing to tell you that only today I am feeling as if I am on the way to getting better. Up until now I have been in a lot of pain and stress due to the injury I received about two weeks ago and I had no idea that the start of 2014 would be this way . I was really looking forward to seeing you all again on the first Monday back.

Anyway I have been told that you all are doing a great job in looking after your relieving teachers Mrs Ackers and Mrs Grant, and learning well- keep this up. As for me, I have not been doing anything at all accept lying down in bed and letting my injury heal so I can come back asap. The pain killers are working better now but I am very bored – it is really hard to do nothing - so I am going to advise you not to climb trees at night and be aware of your safety all the time.

I went on the internet to learn more about how to care for yourself when internal bruising happens and got some useful information to help me with mine.I hope you are using the laptops in our room to find out more information to help you with explanation writing in class.

I am looking forward to being back in a week and starting your desk tops so please keep on collecting photos and pictures related to your identity to complete your page.

I hope last year’s R5 students are setting good examples for those who are new and that everyone is doing the right thing. I cannot wait to see all of you.

BACK TO SCHOOL – 2014

Greetings to you all.

I am certain you all had a lovely holiday and the children looking forward to making a great start in 2014.

There is a lot to look forward to this year and I am really excited after a restful holiday. It is my goal to provide all students with educationally challenging, yet fun, experiences in my classroom.

In the first few weeks the students will be guided and supported in keeping the routines to engage in learning at this level. I hope that the children will work on becoming self-propelled learners and develop this responsibility with a positive attitude shall endeavor to do the best I can to ensure their progress in all areas. The assertive discipline policy in my class is designed to help those children who need help in acquiring appropriate behaviours.

TERM 1 - IDENTITY

The big concept that weaves through all our learning is Identity which means that most if not all of our studies will be around this theme.

In the first few weeks the students will be grouped at appropriate levels in in Reading, Writing and Maths .They will also be setting goals in all areas of learning and the key competencies .

LONGTERM PLAN

RE- The major strand for the term will be GOD. The students will be involved in a very active way to live and expand their faith as God’s people. You shall be informed of the content of studies in your child’s RE exercise book. This book will be sent home on a regular basis with home activities to be completed with your support. This exercise enables you to understand the learning objectives. It is important that you sign each activity on completion and write a comment at the end of the study in each strand about how the home activities were completed.

We shall be studying Traditional from the Prayer Module, Ash Wednesday, Lent and Holy Week will be the Liturgical Year module studies.

The Family Whanau book is an invaluable resource for parents to have at home as it gives you all the necessary information about the RE programme from Year 1 to Year 8.You may buy it or borrow one from school the office.

Social Science – Kiwiana –a study of the special or unique things that have become part of our national identity and remind us that we are Kiwis, e.g. the kiwi and silver fern and The Treaty.

Maths- Number Knowledge and Measurement.

Reading- Reading for Understanding, Connection and Inference.

Written Language- Explanation Writing

PE- Small Ball Skills, Cross Country and Swimming.

The Arts – Visual Arts Focus – Graffiti

ICT-Use the internet, develop publishing skills.

Daily Homework-Monday to Thursdays

· RE-regular home activities.

· Reading for 15 minutes each night

· Spelling and skills exercises based on their list of word.

· Basic Facts revision as suggested in the end –of -year report 2013.

· Extras- as required to complement the learning at school.

STUDENT REMINDERS

· Do your homework

· Sleep at 8.00pm

· Bring your homework to school daily.

PARENT REMINDERS

Your child will need the following supplies kept at school-a pencil, a ruler, red and blue pen, and glue stick and scissors.

* A separate set of supplies should be kept at home.

*Please check and sign off homework checklists each night and sign the reading log.

BREAKING NEWS!

I shall be on Family leave from Tuesday 4th February until the 11^th because my youngest daughter is getting married.

In my absence Margaret Ackers will be teaching Room 5 .
I look forward to meeting you all at the Personal Planning Plan meeting to set goals for your child when I return.
