ROOM 3 SHARES THEIR LEARNING WITH ROOM 5

This morning Alexis, Paige and Elisa from Room 3 showed us their production of chocolate chips  flow chart.
It had drawings of how to make chocolate chips. They drew the machines and they described what the machines did.
We liked the part when they talked about the chocolate chips.
Well done and we hope to share ours with you later.

ATHLETIC SPORTS DAY 2012-Friday 23 December

Jack.SToday was school athletics day. The whole school lined up in their age groups from 5 to 13. The first event was sprints we all raced in our age groups, I raced with the eleven year old boys and I came 3rd. Next for the eleven year olds we had shot put I had a throwing competition with Korban and Luke to decide 3rd but  Korban bet me by a couple of centimetres. Next we had long jump with Mrs Reddy. I did not come 1st,2nd or 3rd I did a jump of 2.7 metres. Then it was morning tea time.

After morning tea we continued to do athletics, for the eleven year olds we had high jump I did not want to jump and neither did Julio so we sat down in the shade. The last event for the eleven year olds was discus, I threw the discus 13.90 metres but Reuben threw the furthest with 19 metres.I think athletics day was really fun and everyone else enjoyed it too.

JULIO  First thing in the morning we got in to our age groups and we headed of outside. When we got there we met up with the other people who were in our age groups, then the sprints began. It started off with the five year old girl s then five year old boys and so on. When that was finished we went straight to the shot put, Ruben and Jackson were very impressive. Next we went to the long jump, once again Ruben and Jackson were impressive, and after that we went to have morning tea. After morning tea we went to the high jump but I did not jump. Then we went to the discus and Ruben won. I think that athletics was a great success and Ruben and Jackson dominated!!.

LavertonThis morning the whole school wore mufti and also had to bring stuff for the raffle. After when all the classes done their roll the whole school met outside to do the sprints. It went to the 5yr olds to the 13yr olds.
After the sprints the tracks were already set for the juniors and seniors.  The seniors had the normal track events like high and long jump, shotput and discus.

Today we had athletics. First we got into our age groups and did sprints. Next the eight year old and nine year olds girls and boys went to high jump and Roydon showed us how to jump. Then we ran off to discus and helped us to show how to hold the disc. After that we went to shotput and Mrs Grant taught us how to throw the ball and Maryjane came first. Last of all we went to long jump. We all had a lot of fun and it was also a nice sunny day to do athletics too!

By Mimi- We got to wear  sports mufti. Lots of parents came to see what their children could do. Cathy and Roydon from Kiwi Sport were there. I came 3rd in shot put and discus. I also came 2nd in high jump. I had an awesome time and I can’t wait for next year’s athletics

Room 5 Visits a Chocolate Factory in Woolston-Thursday 15 November

As part of our Food Technology study ,Room 5 walked briskly down  to the local chocolate factory. When we got there, the owner of the chocolate factory, Steve, told us what was going to happen. The first thing we saw was the “sugar crusher”. The machine crushes the sugar into small pieces so the chocolate is smooth. Next we took turns in having a look inside the mixing machine. Had lots of melted chocolate! Steve told us that when the chocolate is mixed it goes through a CHUTE and then  into a cooling machine. Once the  chocolate is cooled it is chopped  up in to chocolate chips which slides along a conveyor belt and drops into a box .The box is sealed and transported and sold  to different food  companies.
At the end of the tour Steve gave us each a bar of chocolate. The chocolate tasted really good. We enjoyed our visit to the chocolate factory and have a better understanding of how such products are produced. We hope we can visit again soon! Thanks Steve for the opportunity.

MADAGASCAR 3 - 9 November

Last Friday afternoon the whole school went to Reading Cinemas at The Palms to watch Madagascar 3. It was free and provided by "BlueLight", an organisation which promotes a drug and alcohol free community.

This animated movie was about friendship and believing in yourself. The best thing was that it was funny , exciting and entertaining.

We thank "bluelight" and, The Red Bus for the generosity in providing transport.
The Reading Cinema is an amazing theatre and the ushers are very friendly. We love the blue bracelets we were given.
